Today’s manual transportation planning processes were to be brought up to the state of the art by introducing SAP TM. The actual processes were recorded and supplemented by targeted data analyses. Together with the specialist department, we laid out future target processes and collected the requirements for the introduction of SAP TM. These requirements formed the basis for the tender document. In addition, we made a pre-selection of possible implementation partners and supported the final selection.
The cooperation between Trotec and Rothbaum in the SAP TM analysis project represents a significant step forward in the optimization of our logistics processes. Project description: Process optimization with SAP TM in transport planning at Trotec
Trotec Laser GmbH is characterized by a high transport volume, which was largely handled manually at the time of the project. It was therefore necessary to examine the advantages of introducing transportation management software for Trotec. The transport management process landscape at the time was now designed and automated as efficiently as possible with the help of SAP TM. The objectives here were to drive forward the standardization of processes, ensure better traceability and transport planning and minimize manual effort in distribution logistics.
Procedure
The recording of the transport management processes was supplemented by targeted analyses of the transport data, which enabled us to identify optimization potential in the processes. Based on the target processes, we drew up a list of requirements for the transport management software. We then prepared the tender together with the specialist department, selected potential partners for implementation and evaluated them.
Results
Based on the process flows in transportation management at the time, we developed a future process landscape together with Trotec. The requirements for the introduction of SAP TM were defined and collected with the specialist departments. A GAP analysis showed that many weak points and potentials could be solved with the use of SAP TM. For further potential, we defined measures outside the system. In addition, we evaluated the introduction of SAP TM in terms of cost-effectiveness and drew up an implementation roadmap. The focus here was on a phased introduction.
In a second phase, Rothbaum provided support in selecting a suitable partner for the introduction of SAP TM. Together with the specialist department, we developed a use case and drew up a tender document. Potential implementation partners were selected with the help of a longlist and shortlist of possible providers. Selected providers were able to demonstrate their skills in a beauty contest. With Rothbaum’s support, Trotec was able to select a suitable implementation partner.
