Logistics planning
Logistics affects all of your company’s processes
You could produce faster and more, but the deliveries of raw materials are not coming fast enough? Are replenishments from your warehouse not running smoothly? Logistics and its planning is closely linked to all areas of your company. If you want to work more effectively and economically, you cannot avoid optimizing your logistics planning. This includes many aspects: it’s not just about the delivery of everything you need for production and production logistics. It is also important to plan your internal processes, the effective use of your space and rooms and, finally, the question of which processes can be automatically adapted to the constantly changing framework conditions.
Our consultants view logistics as a comprehensive task that extends into all of your company’s processes. That’s why we take a close look together with you and identify further optimization potential in all areas based on your logistics strategy. Whether procurement, production or distribution logistics: with Smart Logistics, we try to enable automation and automated processes. Are driverless transport systems worthwhile for your intralogistics? Which new and innovative solutions are suitable for your company? Rothbaum is always at the cutting edge of technology, we know the state-of-the-art solutions across all industries. Let’s work together to find the optimal and individual solution for your challenge!
Transportation planning
Efficient and optimized transport logistics
Well-planned transport logistics ensure that raw materials, components in your production and finished end products reach your customers safely and as quickly as possible. With perfectly planned routes, you can make the best possible use of your options, reduce costs, ensure punctual deliveries and save time.
Our service packages:
- Determine suitable transport systems
- Increase the degree of autonomization of the transport system
- Optimize route planning (route optimization) – which destinations are reached on a particular route?
- Optimize route planning – in which order and on which routes are the destinations reached?
- Analyze utilization of transport routes (utilization of means of transport or traffic volume)
- Analyze and evaluate transport costs
Your benefit:
- You increase the efficiency of your procurement and distribution logistics
- You have a better overview of your transport costs and can quickly take advantage of optimization opportunities
- You can shorten your delivery times and better meet deadlines

Autonomous plant logistics
Material flow planning for modern and versatile, intelligent intralogistics
From the warehouse to production, from one production hall to the next: effective, well-organized intralogistics is of central importance for smooth work and production processes. It is now possible to precisely coordinate and flexibly organize these processes using intelligent systems (keyword: Industry 4.0).
We support you in finding a suitable solution for your needs. With a material flow analysis, we check exactly what the right steps would be for you and then work with you to implement a holistic optimization of your procurement, distribution and production logistics.
Our service packages:
- Carry out feasibility analysis for autonomous transport and storage systems
- Select transport and storage systems for production and warehouse logistics that are optimally suited to your needs
- Optimize the utilization of your company’s means of transport
- Identify all requirements that exist for the optimal integration of an automated guided vehicle system
- Carry out a profitability analysis for the use of an automated guided vehicle system in your company
Your benefit:
- Plant logistics become more efficient along the entire value chain
- Intelligent transport and storage systems reduce costs
- Data evaluation creates transparency and reveals further optimization potential
Provision management
All materials in the right place at the right time
Nothing works in production and assembly without the right materials. Making them available is therefore an enormously important task. Well-organized provision management prevents work from coming to a standstill or orders from not being delivered on time.
We work with you to optimize your staging management across the individual scheduling and warehouse levels – from the dimensioning of staging to the optimization of your control system. This allows you to increase the efficiency of your order processing, reduce delivery times and optimize your on-time delivery at the same time.
Our service packages:
- Define and dimension transfer points between warehouse, production, delivery, etc.
- Introduce and optimize kanban control
- Determine optimal load carriers for the individual logistics stages
Your benefit:
- Improvement of material availability in the storage levels
- Reduction of order throughput times thanks to more effective provision of all materials and components
- Improving the ability to deliver
- Improving on-time delivery
Container management
Optimized container circuit planning
Optimized logistics planning also includes the planning of container cycles and coordinated container management. With our holistic approach, which includes all steps and aspects, we ensure a smooth material flow within your company and at the same time reduce the number of containers used. This saves time, money and space.
Our service packages:
- Create transparency: What demand for containers exists where, what stocks are there, how and when are how many moved?
- Create stable, standardized processes for clear workflows
- Optimize the use of reusable containers and load carriers – and thus potentially reduce demand
- Reduce transportation routes – also through suitable space management
- Optimize processes with suitable IT tools (smart logistics) so that automatic adjustments are possible
Your benefit:
- The number of containers in circulation is reduced and the existing containers are used more effectively
- Process costs for container management are reduced
- Digitized solutions give you full transparency of processes and requirements
Planning of functional areas
Optimal use of space and rooms

Regardless of whether you are planning a greenfield or brownfield site, building something completely new or want to redesign an existing area: When we plan and develop functional areas with you, we take a close look beforehand. What are the requirements? What external and internal constraints? What processes need to be taken into account? What are the requirements and specifications of your processes?
We always take all requirements and stakeholders into account, enabling a systematic, results-oriented and agile planning process. The end result is efficient processes, short transport routes, minimal handling and effective use of space – and we are happy to work with you every step of the way until the new building or conversion is complete.
Our service packages:
- Analyze and plan material flow and processes
- Plan a layout with effective use of space – whether for a new build (greenfield) or for adapting existing usable space (brownfield)
- Creating fire protection and escape route concepts: Safety first
- Derive all necessary requirements for building planning from the concepts
- Communicate with architects and authorities as an interface to you if required
Your benefit:
- Efficient processes and effective use of space and rooms
- Holistic planning of workplaces, functional and traffic areas in all areas: production, warehouse, administration
- Visual representation of the functional and work areas with the help of modern 3D visualization software

Was ist Logistikplanung?
Logistics planning encompasses all aspects of logistics that can be grouped around a specific company or specific tasks. The aim of this planning is to ensure that material and information flows run as safely, efficiently and punctually as possible and optimally support the production process with as little effort as possible.
At the same time, logistics planning will generally aim to reduce warehousing costs and mechanize and automate logistics processes wherever possible.
Was unterscheidet strategische Logistikplanung und operative Logistikplanung?
A distinction is made between various aspects. Firstly, the difference between strategic and operational logistics planning plays a role.
- Strategic logistics planning takes a long-term view. It also includes, for example, the question of where new locations should be established and which means and routes of transportation should be used; it takes into account internal company factors as well as external influences.
- Operational logistics planning focuses more specifically on the day-to-day needs of the company – how can materials or raw materials be brought to the production site on time and in a suitable manner so that idle times are avoided and the available means of transportation are used as efficiently as possible.
At the same time, a distinction can be made between the internal processes in a company (intralogistics) – the material flow, which must be controlled by thorough flow planning – and all processes that connect the company with the outside world, such as procurement logistics and distribution logistics.
Due to this comprehensive understanding, logistics planning naturally also includes warehouse planning, and therefore all internal processes in the warehouse, all goods receipt and delivery processes, materials management and much more.
