Success Story

Smart and modern logistics concept for the vertical factory of V-ZUG AG

Efficient and transparent control of logistics processes as part of the transformation to the vertical factory

V-ZUG AG is a Swiss manufacturer of high-quality household appliances and is transforming its headquarters in Zug into the vertical factory of the future. The new production structure places high demands on material flows, inventory management, and intralogistics processes, particularly due to the wide variety of product variants and flexible manufacturing. Rothbaum Consulting developed customized concepts for material control, inventory planning, and process optimization. Through the targeted refinement of processes, IT systems, and key performance indicators, the foundation was laid for the efficient and sustainable operation of the vertical factory.

Future-Ready Intralogistics for the Vertical Factory

Challenge

The transition to a vertical factory presented V-ZUG with new challenges in managing material flows and inventory. The wide variety of product variants, flexible manufacturing structures, and varying degrees of automation required precise coordination of intralogistics processes. The goal was to develop a scalable solution that ensures an efficient supply of materials to production.

Implementation

The necessary database was first created in close cooperation with the specialist departments. The specific logistical concepts were developed on the basis of this data. System settings, layout adjustments and support in setting up the warehouse technology were necessary to implement the concepts.

Results

By optimizing intralogistics processes, standardized procedures for material provision were established, and inventory levels at workstations and assembly-area supply centers were strategically managed. The increased transparency of material flows and inventory levels in SAP EWM, along with an integrated KPI system, now enables efficient and data-driven management of intralogistics.

Detailed Results

  • Thanks to the smooth and close collaboration between the Rothbaum team and V-ZUG, a future-proof intralogistics system was developed.
  • The new intralogistics system enables V-ZUG to implement efficient processes right from the start of the vertical factory.
  • In addition, adjustments can be made to individual items within the system, thanks to the comprehensive documentation included in the system’s design.
  • Through targeted monitoring of KPIs, V-ZUG is able to continuously assess its own system for efficiency and identify any weaknesses.
  • This ensures a continuous improvement process that will enable V-ZUG to further refine its intralogistics processes in the future.
